The FA Women's Super League 2017 (English: FA WSL Spring Series) was the seventh edition of the highest English women's football league FA WSL , but does not count as the seventh season. It was organized under the umbrella of the Football Association . The season began in February 2017 and ended in June 2017. The following season began after the 2017 European Championships .
The championship, which has been held since 2014 in two league levels with initially eight and then nine or ten teams, between which there are initially one then two direct promoters or relegators, was played shortened by the following season to the rhythm of most western, central and southern European leagues, which also eliminates league breaks due to European and world championships.
The season did not qualify for the 2017/18 UEFA Women's Champions League , which qualified champions and runners-up from the 2016 FA Women's Super League . The champions were Chelsea Ladies FC in front of the tied preseason champions Manchester City Women . He had won the first game against Chelsea, but in the end a worse goal difference. There was no relegation to WSL 2, as the WSL was increased to ten teams for the 2017/18 season.
Attendees
Due to the last place of the Doncaster Belles in the previous year, they were relegated to WSL2. They have been replaced by the WSL2 winner, Yeovil Town Ladies FC Women. The WSL2 Bristol City runner-up took the place vacated by the withdrawal of Notts County Ladies FC . Each WSL1 team had eight games and played once against each other, but had three, four or five home or away games.
