The FA Women's Super League 2016 was the sixth edition of the highest English women's football league FA WSL . It was organized under the umbrella of the Football Association . The season ran from March to November.
The championship, which has been held in two league levels with eight and ten teams since 2014, between which there is a direct promoted or relegated team, was increased to nine teams in the first division for the 2016 season.
The champions and runners-up qualified for the 2017/18 UEFA Women's Champions League . Manchester City Women became champions for the first time , Doncaster had to relegate to WSL 2, and Notts County Ladies FC was withdrawn shortly before the start of the following season.
Attendees
Due to the last place of Bristol City in the previous year, they relegated to WSL2. They were replaced by the WSL2 winner, Reading FC Women, and the WSL2 Doncaster runner- up increased to nine teams.
