Jane Ross (born September 18, 1989 in Rothesay ) is a Scottish football player . The striker plays for Manchester United in the FA Women's Super League . She has been playing internationally for the Scottish national football team since 2009.

Career

Ross began her career at the age of 13 with the Paisley Saints GFC with whom she played in the West of Scotland Girls' League. When she was 15 she played for the first time internationally in a U-15 game against the Netherlands. At the age of 17 she moved to Glasgow City LFC and won the Scottish Women's Premier League five times in a row with the team . She also won the Scottish Women's Cup and the League Cup several times. With the club, she also took part in the 2010/11 , 2011/12 and 2012/13 UEFA Women's Champions League . She came on 14 missions in which she scored six goals. When they first participated, they failed in qualifying at the German runner-up FCR 2001 Duisburg . In 2011/12 they were able to prevail in qualifying at a tournament in Serbia against the Serbian, Faroese and Maltese champions, to which they contributed three goals. In the sixteenth finals, the Icelandic champions Valur Reykjavík was eliminated. In the round of 16 there were two major defeats (0:10 and 0: 7) against the German champions 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam . She scored her first goal for Manchester on March 26, 2016 in the league game against Arsenal. In the 2016/17 UEFA Women's Champions League , she reached the semi-finals with ManCity and in the quarter-finals with Fortuna Hjørring eliminated the club where she had failed in her last participation. In the semifinals, the serial winner Olympique Lyon was stronger. It was not used in the semi-finals. A year later, Lyon were better in the semi-finals , but only by one goal. She had helped ManCity reach the semi-finals with four goals in the knockout round, but was again not used against Lyon.

For the 2018/19 season she moved to the new league West Ham United , who had received the license for a vacant seat. She was used in all 20 league games and with seven goals contributed to the fact that the newcomer can stay seventh in the league. She moved to Manchester United for the 2019/20 season .

National team

Ross took part with the Scottish U-19 team in the U-19 European Women's Football Championship in 2008 , but was eliminated in the preliminary round after losing to Sweden, England and Germany. For the Scottish national football team Ross made his debut on March 10, 2009 against England when she came on for Pauline Hamill in the second half . She scored her first goal for the senior national team five months later in a 5-2 defeat by Denmark . In 2012, she was nominated as reserve player for Team GB , which represented the United Kingdom at the 2012 Olympic football tournament in London . But then it was not needed. In qualifying for the 2015 World Cup , she was the second best European goalscorer with 13 goals together with two other players.

In qualifying for the 2017 European Championship , she was one of the top three goalscorers with ten goals, scoring a third of Scottish qualifying goals and qualifying for the European Championship finals for the first time with her team as the best runners-up in the group.

On March 3, 2017, she played her 100th international match against South Korea as part of the Cyprus Cup 2017 .

On June 9, 2017, she scored her 50th international goal in a 2-0 friendly against Romania .

At the EM she was only used in the first game against England , which was lost 6-0. After a 2-1 defeat against Portugal and a 1-0 win against Spain, the Scottish women were eliminated in third place.

In qualifying for the 2019 World Cup , she was one of the seven Scottish women who played all eight games. With four goals she was together with Erin Cuthbert the best goalscorer of the Scottish women, who qualified for the first time for the World Cup, where they met England in the first game as in the European Championship.

On May 15, 2019 she was nominated for the World Cup . At the World Cup it was only used in the 1: 2 defeat against former world champions Japan . The Scottish women had already lost 2-1 to England. After a 3: 3 against Argentina, the Scottish women were eliminated.
