The Danish national women's football team represents Denmark in international women's football . The national team reports to the Danish Football Association and has been coached by Lars Søndergaard since January 2018 . In an international comparison, the Danish selection is one of the 15 strongest national teams. After four wins and four second places in the Nordic Championships between 1974 and 1982 and five second places in the Algarve Cup , the team was able to reach the final of a major tournament for the first time in 2017 with the EM final, but lost it to the Netherlands.

In March 2007 and 2009, as well as in June 2009, Denmark achieved sixth place in the FIFA world rankings . In December 2014, 16th place was the worst position since the ranking was introduced; currently (September 2019) the team is 15th.

prehistory

As early as 1969, a Danish team took part in the "Coppa Europa per Nazioni" in Italy, where they reached the final and lost 3-1 to Italy . In 1970 the Danes were able to return the favor in the final of the first unofficial world championship and became the first unofficial women’s soccer world champion. At the 2nd unofficial World Cup in Mexico in 1971, the Danish team reached the final again, where they beat Mexico 3-0 in front of 110,000 spectators, the highest number of spectators at a women's soccer game to date. The 15-year-old Susanne Augustesen scored all three goals. It wasn't until almost three years later, on July 27, 1974, that the first international match recognized by the DBU and FIFA followed.
