The Swiss national women's football team has existed since 1972 and is a team of the Swiss Football Association .

In 2016, Switzerland was able to qualify for a European championship for the first time , which took place the following year, but was eliminated there in the group stage. In June 2014, Switzerland qualified for the first time for the World Cup , which took place in Canada in 2015, and reached the round of 16 there. In qualifying for the 2011 World Cup , the Swiss failed after they had prevailed in their group against the favored Russians , in the games for the playoff place against the CONCACAF third to Italy . In the FIFA world rankings , Switzerland is currently (December 2018) 18th. In September 2014, the Swiss association achieved its first goal of making it into the top ten of the UEFA rankings.

history

The first unofficial international match took place on July 8, 1970 in Salerno against Italy as part of the "Coppa del Mondo" and was lost 2-1. The game is counted by FIGC , but not by FIFA or the Swiss Federation. The first international match recognized by FIFA and SFV was played against France in Basel in 1972 and ended 2-2.

On August 26, 2016, the Swiss team achieved 15th place, the best place in the FIFA world rankings to date .
