Soccer World Cup 2011 / Qualification
The qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2011 Women was held in 2009 and of 2010. Worldwide, 125 teams from the associations played for 15 starting positions. The field of participants in the final round was completed by the host Germany .
The FIFA Executive Committee decided at its meeting on 23 and 24 October 2008 to distribute the number of starting places new to the confederations.
- UEFA ( Europe ): 5 or 6 participants, including hosts Germany
- CAF ( Africa ): 2 participants
- AFC ( Asia ): 3 participants
- OFC ( Oceania ): 1 participant
- CONMEBOL ( South America ): 2 participants
- CONCACAF ( North and Central America and the Caribbean ): 2 or 3 participants
Between the fifth in the European zone and the third in the North American zone, playoff matches were played in a two-legged manner. Then there is defending champion Germany, which is automatically qualified as a host. What is new is that at least a third of the affiliated member associations of each confederation must take part in the qualifying matches with their respective national teams. If this does not happen, the FIFA Executive Committee will assess the number of starting places and reduce it if necessary. In Africa in particular, there have regularly been a large number of withdrawals prior to qualification.
European Zone / UEFA
41 of the 53 UEFA member associations had registered their national teams to take part in the qualifying matches . The draw was in the UEFA headquarters in on 17 March 2009 Swiss Nyon made. With Armenia , Azerbaijan and Macedonia , three countries took part in a World Cup qualification for the first time.
mode
The 41 registered teams were divided into five pots. The basis for the classification were the results of the respective national teams in the qualifications for the 2007 World Cup and the 2009 European Championship . The draw pots A, B, C and D each comprised eight teams, the draw pot E nine teams. The composition of the lottery pots was as follows:
- Pot A: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, England, France, Russia, Ukraine, Italy.
- Pot B: Finland, Iceland, Spain, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland, Poland.
- Pot C: Switzerland, Austria, Serbia, Belarus, Belgium, Greece, Portugal, Hungary.
- Pot D: Slovenia, Slovakia, Israel, Wales, Romania, Northern Ireland, Turkey, Bulgaria.
- Pot E: Croatia, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Malta, Macedonia, Georgia.
During the draw, the teams were drawn into eight groups. One group consisted of six, all the others of five teams. Within the groups, the game was played in the everyone-against-everyone system, which means that each team played a return match against each other. The group matches were played from September 19, 2009 to August 25, 2010.
The group winners qualified for the play-off games. If two or more teams are tied after the group matches have ended, the following criteria were taken into account in order to decide on the placement:
- a) Direct comparison (number of points, goal difference , goals scored, away goals scored)
- b) Repetition of criterion a) among the remaining teams
- c) Results from all group matches (goal difference, goals scored, away goals scored, fair play rating)
- d) The lot
The eight group winners were divided into four games by drawing lots again. The teams determined the four teams that qualified directly for the World Cup finals in the first and second leg. These games took place on 11./12. and 15./16. September 2010. The four losers of these play-offs determined the European participant in the relegation with the CONCACAF third in two further rounds in the first and second leg. These games took place from October 2 to 7 and October 23 to 28, 2010.

Group stage
Group 1
France and Iceland won all their games against other teams without conceding a goal. In a direct comparison, the French women won 2-0 at home and 1-0 on Iceland and qualified for the playoff round. They were the only team to win all games and, like the Danes, remained without conceding a goal, but had to play two more games, which was partly responsible for the fact that they were able to score the most goals. With an average of 5 goals per game, they had the second best goal rate after Denmark.

Group 3
The decision to win the group was made on the last day of the match in a direct encounter between the two leading teams, with a draw for the Danes, while the Scottish women had to win. The 0-0 draw made the Danes the last team to qualify for the playoffs, but if they had won, they would have reached fourth place in the group winners' list. In fifth place, they were drawn against a team in 1st to 4th place. With 5.63 goals per game, they had the best rate of goals and, like the French, did not concede. A third of all goals fell in the record win against Georgia.

Group 4
The decision on group victory was made in the last game between the two leading teams, although a draw in Ukraine would have been enough for the Poles to advance to the playoffs. The Poles also took the lead 1-0, but in the second half the Ukrainians were able to turn the game around and reach the playoff round with a 3-1 with the lowest number of points of all group winners. Daryna Apanashchenko played a decisive role in this and increased her goal account to 10 with two goals. Bosnia-Herzegovina was the only European team to remain without a goal.
