Bridgeview is a place (status: Village ) with 16,446 inhabitants (2010) in Cook County in the state of Illinois in the United States .
geography
The city is located about 20 km southwest of central Chicago (Chicago Loop) and has an area of 10.7 km².
history
The first settlers arrived in the Bridgeview area around 1830. Between 1870 and 1920 the area was mainly used for agriculture. Industry began to develop in the area from the 1920s. In 1947 the city was founded with 500 inhabitants at that time.
Sports
Bridgeview was the home of the major league soccer franchise Chicago Fire . Its former venue, the SeatGeek Stadium (until 2018 Toyota Park ), in the southwest of the city, was largely financed by the city's residents. The national soccer team of the United States played a qualifying game for the 2010 World Cup against Trinidad and Tobago in this stadium on September 10, 2008 (result: 3-0 for the USA). In October 2014, the stadium will host four games at the 2014 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup . For the 2020 season , the franchise moved back to Soldier Field in Chicago .
