Hoffman Estates is a village in Cook County and to a lesser extent in Kane County in the northeast of the US -amerikanischen State of Illinois and part of the Chicago metropolitan area . As of the 2010 census , Hoffman Estates had 51,895 residents; by 2013 the population had risen to 52,398.
geography
Hoffman Estates is located at 42 ° 3'47 "north latitude and 88 ° 7'9" west longitude and extends over 51.54 km², which is spread over 51.02 km² of land and 0.52 km² of water.
Hoffman Estates is located approximately 50 km northeast of downtown Chicago .
Municipalities immediately adjacent to Hoffman Estates are Schaumburg in the south, Elgin in the west, South Barrington in the northwest, Barrington and Inverness in the north, Palatine in the northeast and Mount Prospect in the east.
The O'Hare International Airport , the largest airport of Chicago, located 27.4 km south east of Hoffman Estates.
The west bank of Lake Michigan is around 50 km east of Hoffman Estates.
North of the center of Hoffman Estates runs in a west-east direction the toll Interstate 90 , which forms the shortest connection from Chicago to Rockford and from there further west. Illinois State Routes 58 and 72 intersect further south of the interstate .
history
After the highway was completed in 1958, Hoffman Estates was established a year later as a typical satellite city for commuters to the nearby metropolis of Chicago. At the beginning of the 1960s, the municipality expanded northward beyond the motorway.
An attempt to rename the place East Barrington failed at the beginning of the 1980s due to the vote of the residents.
The Prairie Stone Business Park opened in the 1990s . The development accelerated when the Sears company moved its headquarters from the then Sears Tower in Chicago to Hoffman Estates. Other companies were added in the following years.
In addition to a number of companies, a Northern Illinois University location was also established. In 2005 the Sears Center was opened, a modern arena for various sports.

The headquarters of Sears Holdings Corporation , AT & T's regional organization for the Midwest and the US subsidiary of the Japanese machine tool manufacturer DMG MORI are located in Hoffman Estates .
Sports
The indoor football league team Chicago Slaughter and the Legends football league team Chicago Bliss play their home games in the Sears Center , a sports hall that can hold more than 10,000 spectators . In the 2011/12 season, the sports facility also served as the venue for the home games of the Chicago Express ice hockey team from the ECHL .

As of the 2010 census , Hoffman Estates had 51,895 people in 18,132 households and 13,689 families.
The racial the population was composed of 64.1 percent white, 4.8 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American and 22.7 percent Asian . 2.6 percent were descended from at least two of these races. Regardless of ethnicity, 14.1 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino .
Children under the age of 18 lived in 34.0 percent of the 18,132 households, 61.26 percent were married couples, 19.63 percent were single households and 24.50 percent were non-families. The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size 3.30.
25.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 65.6 percent were between 18 and 64 and 9.4 percent were 65 years or older. The mean age was 27.0 years.
The average annual income per household was 82,793 USD . The per capita income was 34,538 USD . 5.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line .
