Northern Illinois University
The Northern Illinois University (NIU) is a state university in DeKalb in the US state of Illinois . Founded in 1895, there are currently around 25,000 students enrolled. In addition to the main campus in DeKalb, there are subsidiary locations in Hoffman Estates, Naperville , Rockford and Oregon, Illinois .
The sports teams at Northern Illinois University are the huskies . The university is a member of the Mid-American Conference .
During a rampage in an auditorium on the Cole's Hall campus on February 14, 2008, shortly after 3 p.m. local time, a gunman shot five people and then himself. There were 16 people injured, some seriously.
