The Mid-American Conference is a twelve-university league for various sports that play in NCAA Division I. In college football , the teams play in the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division IA ).

history

The league was founded on February 24, 1946 as an association of five universities in Columbus , Ohio . The headquarters have been in Cleveland , Ohio since July 1999 , previously the headquarters were in Toledo , Ohio for fifteen years .

In March 2019, the MAC announced the merger with the Eastern Wrestling League, which made the MAC the second largest wrestling conference in the country by adding seven new teams.

  • The MAC will add women's lacrosse into the 2021 season (2020-21 academic year) with six members - full members Akron, Central Michigan and Kent State and associate members Detroit Mercy, Robert Morris and Youngstown State. Eastern Michigan will add women's lacrosse in the 2022 season.
