Morgantown is a city and county seat of Monongalia County in the north of the US -amerikanischen state of West Virginia . Morgantown was founded in 1810. The population is 30,333 (as of 2009).

history

Until the peace treaty of 1763 , the area of ​​today's Morgantown was claimed by Franco-American and Anglo-American settlers as well as by the local Indian peoples. Although it emerged from the peace agreement that the English had been awarded the area, the armed conflicts with the Indians continued unabated until the beginning of the American Revolution .

Morgantown is home to West Virginia University , the largest and most important university in West Virginia. The number of enrolled students is 28,898 (as of 2009). The school is adjacent to the Downtown Morgantown Historic District , a historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 2, 1996 with the number 96000441. There are two secondary schools in the city, University High School and Morgantown High School.

Culture

Cultural offerings in Morgantown are offered by the WVU Arts & Entertainment as well as the Monongalia Arts Center , which can be found in the NRHP as the historically recorded Old Morgantown Post Office . The building was added on March 28, 1979 with the number 79002593.

Sports
