Monongalia County is a county in the state of West Virginia in the United States . In 2010 the county had 96,189 residents and a population density of 102.8 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Morgantown .
In Minnesota there was a county of the same name from 1861 to 1870, which was united with Kandiyohi County .
geography
The county is located in northern West Virginia, bordering Pennsylvania and has an area of 948 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Greene County, Pennsylvania, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, Preston County , Taylor County , Marion County, and Wetzel County .

Monongalia County was formed on October 7, 1776 from the West Augusta District. It was named after the Monongalia River flowing in this area .

According to the 2000 census , Monongalia County had 81,866 people. Of these, 5,688 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 33,446 households and 18,495 families. The population density was 88 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.22 percent white, 3.38 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 2.45 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.32 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.39 percent were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.01 percent of the population.
Of the 33,446 households, 24.2 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 43.8 percent were married couples living together, 8.3 percent were single mothers, 44.7 percent were non-families, 31.3 percent were single households and 8.4 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.91 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 18.2 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 23.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 10.7 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 101.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 101.2 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 28,625 , and the median income for a family is $ 43,628. Males had a median income of $ 33,113 versus $ 23,828 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,106. 11.3 percent of families and 22.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line. These included 17.9 percent of children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 8.0 percent of people aged 65 and over.
