Tucker County is a county in the state of West Virginia in the United States . The county seat is Parsons .

The county is located in northeast West Virginia and has an area of 1,091 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Preston Counties , Grant Counties , Randolph Counties , and Barbour Counties ,
history
Tucker County was formed on March 7, 1856 from parts of Randolph County. It was named after Henry St. George Tucker, Sr. , a Virginia judge .

As of the 2000 census , Tucker County had 7,321 people in 3,052 households and 2,121 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.85 percent white, 0.07 percent African American, 0.19 percent Native American, 0.01 percent Asian, 0.12 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.10 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.66 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.25 percent of the population.
Of the 3,052 households, 27.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 58.0 percent were married couples living together, 7.8 percent were single mothers, 30.5 percent were non-families, 27.2 percent were single households, and 13.6 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.84 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 21.3 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 6.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.4 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 17.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 94.1 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 26,250 , and the median income for a family is $ 32,574. Males had a median income of $ 24,149 versus $ 17,642 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,349. 14.9 percent of families and 18.1 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 24.3 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 15.5 percent were people over 65 years of age.
