Doddridge County is a county in the state of West Virginia in the United States . The county seat is West Union .

The county is located in north-central West Virginia and covers an area of 830 square kilometers with no significant body of water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Wetzel County , Harrison County , Lewis County , Gilmer County , Ritchie County, and Tyler County .

history

Doddridge County was formed on February 4, 1845 from parts of Harrison, Lewis, Ritchie and Tyler Counties. It was named after Philip Doddridge (1773-1832), a Senator from Virginia and a member of the US House of Representatives .

The racial the population was composed of 98.31 percent white, 0.27 percent African American, 0.31 percent Native American, 0.15 percent Asian and 0.14 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.82 percent were descended from two or more races.
