Cabell County is a county in the US state of West Virginia in the United States . The county seat is Huntington .

The county is located in southwest West Virginia, borders Ohio to the west , the border being formed by the Ohio River , and has an area of 746 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Mason County , Putnam County , Lincoln County , Wayne County , Lawrence County, Ohio, and Gallia County, Ohio.
history
Cabell County was formed on January 2, 1809 from parts of Kanawha County. It was named after William H. Cabell , a judge and governor of Virginia .
In the opioid epidemic , Cabell County was the US county with the highest rate of deaths from the narcotic drug fentanyl according to statistics from 2013 to 2017 inclusive . An average of 62.9 people per 100,000 inhabitants died from the drug every year.

As of the 2000 census , Cabell County had 96,784 people in 41,180 households and 25,490 families. The population density was 133 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.37 percent white, 4.29 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.77 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.20 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.14 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.68 percent of the population.
Of the 41,180 households, 25.2 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 47.1 percent were married couples living together, 11.6 percent were single mothers, 38.1 percent were non-families, 31.3 percent were single households, and 12.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.85.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 20.0 percent of residents under the age of 18, 13.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 16.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 91.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were 88.5 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the 28,479 USD , and the median income for a family was 37,691 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,780 versus $ 22,243 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,638. 13.7 percent of families and 19.2 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 24.6 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 10.8 percent were people over 65 years of age.
