Wyoming County is a county in the state of West Virginia in the United States . The county seat is Pineville .

The county is located in southern West Virginia and covers an area of ​​1,300 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Boone County , Raleigh County , Mercer County , McDowell County , Mingo County, and Logan Counties .

history

Wyoming County was formed on January 26, 1850 from parts of Logan County. It was named after an Indian expression.

As of the 2000 census , Wyoming County had 25,709 people in 10,454 households and 7,704 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.59 percent white, 0.63 percent African American, 0.12 percent Native American, 0.08 percent Asian and 0.07 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.51 percent were descended from two or more races.
