Wyoming County is a county in the state of West Virginia in the United States . The county seat is Pineville .

The county is located in southern West Virginia and covers an area of 1,300 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Boone County , Raleigh County , Mercer County , McDowell County , Mingo County, and Logan Counties .
history
Wyoming County was formed on January 26, 1850 from parts of Logan County. It was named after an Indian expression.

As of the 2000 census , Wyoming County had 25,709 people in 10,454 households and 7,704 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.59 percent white, 0.63 percent African American, 0.12 percent Native American, 0.08 percent Asian and 0.07 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.51 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.53 percent of the population.
Of the 10,454 households, 31.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 59.3 percent were married couples living together, 10.5 percent were single mothers, 26.3 percent were non-families, 24.4 percent were single households and 11.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.89 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.4 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 8.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.5 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 13.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 96.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 93.2 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 23,932 , and the median income for a family is $ 29,709. Males had a median income of $ 32,493 versus $ 18,812 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,220. 20.2 percent of families and 25.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 36.9 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 13.5 percent were people over 65 years of age.
