Wayne County is a county in the US state of West Virginia in the United States . The county seat is Wayne .

The county is located in the southwest of West Virginia, borders Ohio with the border being formed by the Ohio River , and Kentucky and has an area of 1,327 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Lawrence County, Ohio, Cabell County , Lincoln County , Mingo County , Martin County, Kentucky, Lawrence County, Kentucky, and Boyd County, Kentucky.
history
Wayne County was formed on January 18, 1842 from parts of Cabell County. It was named after Anthony Wayne , an American general in the Indian Wars and the American War of Independence .

Wayne County had a population of 42,903 people as of the 2000 census . 195 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 17,239 households and 12,653 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.79 percent white, 0.13 percent African American, 0.23 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.08 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.56 percent were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.47 percent of the population.
Of the 17,239 households, 31.2 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 59.2 percent were married couples living together, 10.8 percent were single mothers, 26.6 percent were non-families, 24.1 percent were single households and 11.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.92 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.4 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 8.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were statistically 91.8 men.
The median income for a household in the 27,352 USD , and the median income for a family was 32,458 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,554 versus $ 20,720 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,906. 16.2 percent of families and 19.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 25.5 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 15.2 percent were people over 65 years of age.
