Jackson County is a county in the state of West Virginia in the United States . At the 2010 census , the county had 29,211 residents and a population density of 24.2 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Ripley .

The county is located to the west of West Virginia, borders Ohio to the northwest , the border being formed by the Ohio River , and covers an area of ​​1206 square kilometers, of which one square kilometer is water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Wood County , Wirt County , Roane County , Kanawha County , Putnam County , Mason County, and Meigs County, Ohio.

Jackson County was formed on March 1, 1831 from parts of Kanawha County, Mason County and Wood County. It was named after Andrew Jackson , the seventh President of the United States.
