The Brooke County is a county in the US state of West Virginia . At the 2010 census , the county had 24,069 people and a population density of 104.6 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Wellsburg .

geography

The county is located almost in the far north of West Virginia in the Northern Panhandle , borders Pennsylvania to the east and Ohio to the west , the border being formed by the Ohio River . history

Brooke County was formed on November 30, 1796 from parts of Ohio County. It was named after Robert Brooke (approx. 1761–1800), a former governor of Virginia (1794–1796).
