The Pleasants County is a county in the US state of West Virginia . At the 2010 census , the county had 7,605 people and a population density of 22.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is St. Marys .

The county is located in northwestern West Virginia, bordering Ohio , the border being formed by the Ohio River , and has an area of ​​349 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history

James Pleasants

The Pleasants County was formed on March 29, 1851 from parts of Ritchie, Taylor and Wood Counties. It was named after James Pleasants (1769-1836), a US  -  Senator (1819-1822) and later Governor of Virginia (1922-1825).
