Pocahontas County is a county in the state of West Virginia in the United States . At the 2010 census , the county had 8,719 people and a population density of 3.6 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Marlinton .

The county is located in east West Virginia, borders Virginia and has an area of ​​2,439 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Randolph County , Pendleton County , Highland County, Virginia, Bath County, Virginia, Greenbrier County, and Webster County .

Pocahontas

Pocahontas County was formed on December 21, 1821 from parts of Pendleton County, Randolph County and Bath County (Virginia). It was named after Pocahontas , the daughter of the Indian chief Powhatan-Sachem, who was the only "Indian princess" and ambassador of her "royal" father Powhatan to be received at court.
