The Pleasants Power Plant is a coal-fired power plant located near Belmont , West Virginia . It is located on the Ohio River and has a total installed capacity of 1,300 MW.
During the construction of one of the cooling towers, Willow Island's scaffolding collapsed in 1978 . The entire top row of concrete elements of the tower fell down together with the scaffolding attached to it. All 51 workers on the scaffolding fell to their deaths.
From 2005 to 2008 a flue gas desulphurization system was built.
