Robert Brooke

Robert Brooke (* around 1760; † February 27, 1800 in Spotsylvania County ) was a politician in Virginia and a Freemason . He was Governor of Virginia from 1794 to 1796 and Plenipotentiary General of Virginia from 1796 to 1800.

Brooke was likely born in Spotsylvania County around 1760. He traveled to Scotland and studied medicine at Edinburgh University. When the American War of Independence broke out, he was briefly stranded in Great Britain . In 1780 Brooke returned to Virginia.

He was a Freemason and former chairman of Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4 and became Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Virginia on November 23, 1795 .

He died on February 27, 1800 in Fredericksburg , Virginia.
