James Stuart "Jim" Gilmore III (born October 6, 1949 in Richmond , Virginia ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ). From 1998 to 2002 he was governor of Virginia.

Career

From 1994 to 1998 he was Virginia Attorney General .

In 1997, he sat down in the election for governor of Virginia with 56% of the vote against his Democratic challenger Donald Beyer Jr. by.

From January 2001 to January 2002 Gilmore was the Republican National Committee . His resignation came due to several defeats by the Republicans in elections to the US Senate and in various states. On November 4, 2008, he lost to Mark R. Warner the candidacy for the US Senate.

In April 2007, he announced his candidacy for the US presidential election in 2008 , but withdrew it in July 2007 due to insufficient campaign funding. In July 2015, he announced that he was running for the 2016 US presidential election . In February 2016, he gave up his application after barely receiving any votes in the first internal party primaries .

The Washington Post , according to Gilmore was in the first half of 2017 as United States Ambassador in Germany for the government Trump talking. He was considering running for the United States Senate in Virginia against Democratic incumbent Tim Kaine in September 2017 .
