James Donald Cameron
James Donald Cameron (born May 14, 1833 in Middletown , Pennsylvania , † August 30, 1918 in Donegal , Pennsylvania) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). He was the son of Simon Cameron .
Cameron was US Secretary of War between 1876 and 1877 under President Ulysses S. Grant . In 1877 he was elected to the US Senate for the first time for the state of Pennsylvania as the successor to his father . He was re-elected in 1879 , 1885 and 1891 , and so until 1897 he had a term of 20 years. From 1879 to 1880 he was chairman of the Republican National Committee .
Cameron was the last surviving member of the Grant cabinet when he died . He was buried in Harrisburg .
