Richard Brodhead

Richard Brodhead (* 5. January 1811 in Lehman Township , Pike County , Pennsylvania ; † 16th September 1863 in Easton , Pennsylvania) was an American politician of the Democratic Party , of the State of Pennsylvania in both houses of Congress represented.

In 1830 Richard Brodhead settled in Easton, the administrative seat of Northampton County . There he studied law , was admitted to the bar in 1836 and then began to practice in his new profession. From 1837 to 1839 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania ; in 1841 he was appointed treasurer of Northampton County.

On March 4, 1843, Brodhead moved into the House of Representatives in Washington as a representative of the 10th Congressional Constituency of Pennsylvania . He was re-elected twice and during his six-year tenure was among other things chairman of the Committee on Revolutionary Pensions . In 1848 he did not run again; two years later he applied for one of Pennsylvania's two seats in the US Senate . After winning the election, he was a member of the Chamber of Parliament from March 4, 1851 to March 3, 1857. Here he was temporarily chairman of the Committee on Claims .

Richard Brodhead died in Easton six years after leaving the Senate. His son Jefferson also became a politician and represented Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives from 1907 to 1909.
