Pennsylvania House of Representatives
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives ( Pennsylvania House of Representatives ) is the lower house of the Pennsylvania General Assembly , the legislature of the US state of Pennsylvania .
The parliamentary chamber consists of 203 members. They each represent a constituency with an average of 60,498 inhabitants (as of 2002) and are elected for a two-year term. The elections take place in November of every even year. There is no term limit. The House of Representatives boardroom, along with the State Senate, is located in the Pennsylvania State Capitol in the capital, Harrisburg .
Structure of the chamber
The Speaker of the House is the Chairman of the House of Representatives . The office of speaker is the oldest elected office in all of Pennsylvania. The first session was held in 1682 under the leadership of William Penn . Shortly before, over 130 MPs elected him to office. The Chamber of Parliament cannot hold an official session in the absence of the speaker or his deputy, the speaker pro tempore . The speaker is also responsible for the legislative process and oversees the assignments to the various committees. Other important office holders are the majority leader and the opposition leader ( minority leader ), who are elected by the respective parliamentary groups.
