The Massachusetts Senate ( Massachusetts State Senate ) is the upper house of the Massachusetts General Court , the legislature of the US state of Massachusetts . The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 40 senators, each representing an electoral district. The electoral districts are named after the counties in which they are located. The senators are each elected for two-year terms. The Senate boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Massachusetts State House in the capital Boston .

Tasks of the Senate

As in the upper houses of other states and territories as well as in the US Senate , the Massachusetts Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond legislation.
