The Washington House of Representatives ( Washington House of Representatives ) is the lower house of the Washington State Legislature , the Legislature of the State of Washington .

The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 98 members, with two members representing each electoral district. The MPs are each elected for two-year terms; there is no limit to the terms of office. The House of Representatives boardroom, along with the State Senate, is located in the Washington State Capitol in Olympia .

Structure of the chamber

The Speaker of the House is the Chairman of the House of Representatives . He is first elected by the majority parliamentary group in the chamber before confirmation by the entire parliament follows. The speaker is also responsible for the legislative process and oversees the assignments to the various committees. The current speaker is Frank Chopp , member of the Democratic Party from the 43rd constituency ( Seattle ).

Other important office holders are the majority leader and the opposition leader ( minority leader ), who are elected by the respective parliamentary groups. The Democratic majority is currently led by Pat Sullivan from the 47th constituency ( King County ), while the Republican minority leader is Richard DeBolt from the 20th constituency ( Centralia and Chehalis Counties ).
