The Alabama Senate ( Alabama State Senate ) is the upper house of the Alabama Legislature , the legislature of the US state Alabama .

The Chamber of Parliament consists of 35 members, each representing an electoral district. Each of these fixed units comprises an average of 127,140 citizens. The senators are each elected for four-year terms; there is no limit to the terms of office.

The Senate boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Alabama State House in the capital, Montgomery .

Tasks of the Senate

As in the upper houses of other US states and territories, and in the US Senate , the Alabama Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond the legislative framework. It is the responsibility of the Senate to confirm or reject nominations by the governor in his cabinet, other executive offices, commissions and authorities.

Structure of the chamber

The President of the Senate is the acting Vice-Governor . He only takes part in votes in order to bring about a decision in the event of a stalemate. In the absence of the Vice-Governor, the respective President presides over the plenary sessions pro tempore . This is elected by the majority parliamentary group in the Senate and later confirmed by the Chamber. The current lieutenant governor and President of the Senate is Republican Will Ainsworth , and President pro tempore of Republicans Del Marsh of the 12th constituency ( Calhoun and Talladega Counties ).

For majority leader ( Majority leader ) of the Republicans was Greg Reed , the fifth constituency ( Fayette County , Jefferson , Tuscaloosa County , Walker County and Winston County ), elected; Opposition leader ( minority leader ) is Democrat Bobby Singleton from the 24th constituency.
