The Iowa Senate ( Iowa Senate is), the upper house of the Iowa General Assembly , the legislature of the US state of Iowa .

The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 50 members, each representing an electoral district. Each of these fixed units has an average of 59,500 inhabitants and corresponds to two electoral districts for the state's House of Representatives . The senators are each elected for four-year terms; there is no limit to the terms of office. Half of the members stand for election every two years.

The Senate boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Iowa State Capitol in the capital Des Moines .

President of the Senate

The President of the Senate, who heads the committee, has fewer powers than the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He cannot assign the chairmanship of the committees or withdraw membership in the committees. Since an extension to the state constitution that came into force in 1991, the respective vice-governor no longer exercises the office of president of the Senate, but restricts himself to performing the tasks assigned by the governor .

The Democrat Pam Jochum from the Dubuque electoral district was elected President of the Senate. President pro tempore is the Democrat Steve Sodders .
