The Michigan Senate ( Michigan State Senate ) is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature , the legislature of the US state of Michigan .

The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 38 senators, each representing an electoral district. Each of these fixed units comprises a number between 212,400 and 263,500 inhabitants. Senators are at the same time as the Governor elected by Michigan and have just as he is a four-year term. The elections have been postponed by two years to the US presidential election. The term of office of a senator begins on January 1st after the general election the previous November. Senators who have served no more than half of any senator's tenure are eligible to serve two full terms, that is, eight years.

The Senate Boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Michigan State Capitol in the capital, Lansing .

Tasks of the Senate

As in the upper houses of other states and territories as well as in the US Senate , the Michigan Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond legislation. It is the responsibility of the Senate to confirm or reject nominations by the governor in his cabinet, other executive offices, commissions and authorities.
