The Senate of Colorado ( Colorado State Senate is), the upper house of the Colorado General Assembly , the legislature of the US state of Colorado .

The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 35 senators, each representing an electoral district. Each of these fixed units comprises an average of 123,000 inhabitants (as of 2000). The senators are each elected for four-year terms; There is a limitation in terms of office to two consecutive terms.

The Senate boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Colorado State Capitol in the capital Denver .

Tasks of the Senate

As in the upper houses of other states and territories, as well as the US Senate , the Colorado Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond the legislative framework. It is the responsibility of the Senate to confirm or reject nominations by the governor in his cabinet, other executive offices, commissions and authorities.

Structure of the chamber

The President of the Senate is not, as is usual in other states, the lieutenant governor , but an elected senator of the majority party. He is first pre-elected within the parliamentary group and then elected into office by the new Senate at the constituent meeting . The current President of the Senate is the Democrat Leroy Garcia , who represents the 3rd constituency.

For majority leader ( Majority leader ) of the Democrats was Stephen Fenberg selected 18th constituency; Opposition leader ( minority leader ) is the Republican Chris Holbert from the 30th constituency.
