New York Senate
The Senate of New York ( New York State Senate ) is the upper house of the New York State Legislature , the Legislature of the State of New York .
The New York Constitution allows for a varying number of MPs in the Senate. The Chamber of Parliament currently consists of 62 senators, each representing an electoral district. The senators are each elected for two-year terms; there is no limit to the terms of office. The Senate Chamber is located together with the State Assembly in the New York State Capitol in the capital Albany .
Structure of the chamber
The President of the Senate is the acting Vice-Governor . He only takes part in votes in order to bring about a decision in the event of a stalemate. In the absence of the Vice-Governor, the respective President presides over the plenary sessions pro tempore . This is elected by the majority parliamentary group in the Senate and later confirmed by the Chamber. Other important incumbents are the majority leader and the opposition leader ( minority leader ), who are elected by the respective party meetings.
