The Senate of Arkansas ( Arkansas State Senate ) is the upper house of the Arkansas General Assembly , the legislature of the US state of Arkansas .

The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 35 senators, each representing an electoral district. Each of these fixed units comprises an average of 76,000 inhabitants. The senators are each elected for four-year terms, with one half of the chamber being elected every other year. The terms of office are limited to two session periods.

The Senate boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Arkansas State Capitol in the capital, Little Rock .

Tasks of the Senate

As in the upper houses of other US states and territories, as well as in the US Senate , the Arkansas Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond legislation. It is the responsibility of the Senate to confirm or reject nominations by the governor in his cabinet, other executive offices, commissions and authorities.

Arkansas Constitution - Article 5. Legislative Department. § 3. Senates.
The Senate shall consist of members to be chosen every four years, by the qualified electors of the several districts. At the first session of the Senate, the Senators shall divide themselves into two classes, by lot, and the first class shall hold their places for two years only, after which all shall be elected for four years.

The Arkansas Senate shall consist of members to be chosen every four years by the qualified electors of the several districts. No member of the Arkansas Senate may serve more than two such four year terms.

Structure of the chamber

The President of the Senate is the acting Vice-Governor . He only takes part in votes in order to bring about a decision in the event of a stalemate. In the absence of the Vice-Governor, the respective President presides over the plenary sessions pro tempore . This is elected by the majority parliamentary group in the Senate and later confirmed by the Chamber. Current vice governor and Senate president is the Republican Mark Darr , president pro tempore of Democrat Paul Bookout from the 14th constituency ( Jonesboro ).

For majority leader ( Majority leader ) of the Democrats was Robert Thompson , 11th constituency ( Paragould ) selected; Opposition leader ( minority leader ) is the Republican Ruth Whitaker from the 3rd constituency ( Cedarville ).
