The Senate of Delaware ( Delaware State Senate ) is the upper house of the Delaware General Assembly , the legislature of the US state of Delaware .

The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 21 senators, each representing an electoral district. The senators are each elected for four-year terms, with one half of the chamber being elected every other year. Since the chamber has an odd number of members, ten and then eleven members are elected. There is no limit to the terms of office.

The Senate boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Delaware State Capitol in the capital, Dover .

Tasks of the Senate

As in the upper houses of other states and territories, as well as in the US Senate , the Delaware Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond legislation. It is the responsibility of the Senate to confirm or reject nominations by the governor in his cabinet, other executive offices, commissions and authorities.

Structure of the chamber

The President of the Senate is the acting Vice-Governor . He only takes part in votes in order to bring about a decision in the event of a stalemate. In the absence of the Vice-Governor, the respective President presides over the plenary sessions pro tempore . This is elected by the majority parliamentary group in the Senate and later confirmed by the Chamber. The current Vice-Governor and Senate President is the Democrat Matthew P. Denn , President pro tempore the Democrat Anthony J. DeLuca from the 11th constituency ( New Castle County ).

(For majority leader leader Majority ) of the Democrats was Patricia Blevins , the seventh constituency ( Elsmere ) selected; Opposition leader ( minority leader ) is Republican F. Gary Simpson , 18th constituency ( Milford ).
