The House of Representatives from Texas ( Texas House of Representatives ) is the lower house of the Texas Legislature , the Legislature of the State of Texas . The parliamentary chamber is composed of 150 members, each representing its own constituency for two years. The House of Representatives boardroom is shared with the Senate in the Texas State Capitol in the capital Austin .

Structure of the chamber

The Speaker of the House is the Chairman of the House of Representatives . He is first elected by the majority parliamentary group in the chamber before confirmation by the entire parliament follows. The current speaker is Joe Straus from San Antonio , a Republican MP from the 121st electoral district. In addition, a Speaker Pro Tempore will be elected by the House of Representatives who will only hold the chair during the speaker's absence. The current Speaker Pro Tempore is Republican Beverly Woolley from Houston , 136th electoral district.
