Arizona Senate
The Arizona Senate ( Arizona State Senate ) is the upper house of the Arizona Legislature , the Legislature of the State of Arizona .
The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 30 senators, each representing an electoral district. Each of these fixed units comprises an average of 171,021 inhabitants (as of 2000). The senators are each elected for two-year terms; The terms of office are limited in that only four consecutive terms (eight years) can be served.
The Senate Boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Arizona State Capitol in the capital, Phoenix .
Tasks of the Senate
As in the upper houses of other US states and territories, as well as in the US Senate , the Arizona Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond legislation. It is the responsibility of the Senate to confirm or reject nominations by the governor in his cabinet, other executive offices, commissions and authorities.
Structure of the chamber
Along with Maine , Oregon and Wyoming, Arizona is one of four US states that have abolished the office of lieutenant governor . This office acts in most upper houses, as well as the US House of Representatives (with the Vice President ), as head of the respective Chamber of Parliament. Instead, a separate Senate President was created in Oregon's executive branch.
The President of the Senate only takes part in votes to bring about a decision in the event of a stalemate. In his absence, the respective President presides over the plenary sessions pro tempore . This is elected by the majority parliamentary group in the Senate and later confirmed by the Chamber. Current Senate President is Republican Russell Pearce from the 18th electoral district ( Mesa ); President pro tempore is the Republican Sylvia Allen from the 5th constituency ( Gila County and Snowflake ).
For majority leader ( Majority leader ) of the Republicans was Scott Bundgaard from the 4th constituency ( Yavapai County and Maricopa County elected); Opposition leader ( minority leader ) is the Democrat David Schapira from the 17th constituency ( Phoenix and Tempe ).
