Andy Biggs (born November 7, 1958 in Tucson , Arizona ) is an American politician . Since January 3, 2017, he has represented the state of Arizona in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Andy Biggs graduated from Arizona State University , where he studied international relations and later political science . He studied Asian Studies at Brigham Young University . After graduating from the University of Arizona with a law degree and admission to the bar, he began working in the profession.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 2003 and 2011 he was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives ; since 2011 he has been a member of the State Senate . There he was parliamentary group leader of the Republicans ( Minority Leader ) until 2013 . Since 2013 he has been President of the Chamber as Majority Leader .

In the 2016 congressional election , Biggs was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Arizona , where he succeeded Matt Salmon , who was no longer running, on January 3, 2017 .
