Karan English

Karan English (born March 23, 1949 in Berkeley , California ) is an American politician . Between 1993 and 1995 she represented the sixth constituency of the state of Arizona in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

Karan English attended Enterprise High School in Redding until 1967 and then Shasta Junior College in the same city until 1969 . This was followed by courses at the University of California at Santa Barbara and then until 1973 at the University of Arizona . She finished her studies at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff .

Political career

Karan English became a member of the Democratic Party . From 1981 to 1987 she was a county supervisor in Coconino County , Arizona and from 1987 to 1991 she was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives . After that she was a member of the State Senate between 1991 and 1993 . In the 1992 congressional election, she was elected to the US House of Representatives in the newly created sixth constituency of Arizona. She was even supported by former US Senator Barry Goldwater from the Republican Party . In addition, their choice was in the national trend of the time. At that time, the Democrat Bill Clinton also managed to win the presidential election.

After Isabella Greenway , Karan English was only the second woman to represent the State of Arizona in the House of Representatives. She took up her new office on January 3, 1993 and completed a two-year legislative period. In the 1994 congressional elections, she was defeated by Republican JD Hayworth . Today English works at Northern Arizona University in the Center for Sustainable Environments .
