Thomas C. "Tom" O'Halleran (born January 24, 1946 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American politician . Since January 3, 2017, he has represented the state of Arizona in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tom O'Halleran studied at Lewis University in Romeoville in 1965 and 1966 . He was enrolled at DePaul University in 1991 and 1992 . Between 1966 and 1979 he was in the Chicago Police Department. He then served until 1992 also in Chicago sellers of government bonds ( Government Bond Trader ). He moved to Arizona in the late 1990s, where he served as the natural resource coordinator for the Verde Valley communities between 1998 and 2000 .

Politically, he initially joined the Republican Party , which he left in 2014. He was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 2001 to 2006, and served on the State Senate from 2007 to 2009 . After leaving this body, he hosted a local radio show. In 2014 he ran unsuccessfully as an independent candidate for return to the Arizona Senate. In 2015 he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 2016 congressional election , O'Halleran was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the first constituency of Arizona , where he succeeded Ann Kirkpatrick on January 3, 2017 . Because of a failed candidacy for the US Senate, she waived a possible re-election to the House of Representatives.
