Jim Kolbe
James Thomas ("Jim") Kolbe (born June 28, 1942 in Evanston , Illinois ) is an American politician . He is a Republican member and was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1985 to 2007 .
biography
After completing school, Kolbe studied at Northwestern University in Evanston and Stanford University in Palo Alto , California . He then served in the US Naval Forces and later worked for the Republican Governor Richard Ogilvie in Illinois. Kolbe was elected a deputy to the Arizona Senate. In 1985 he became a member of the United States House of Representatives. He was re-elected as a member of parliament in the coming parliamentary elections. Kolbe was the second openly gay Republican MP in the House of Representatives after Steven Gunderson .
In November 2005, Kolbe announced that he would not run again as a member of parliament. His seat in the House of Representatives won in the 2006 elections as successor to the Democratic MP Gabrielle Giffords .
