Rick Renzi

Richard George "Rick" Renzi (born June 11, 1958 in Fort Monmouth , Monmouth County , New Jersey ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2009 he represented the first constituency of the state of Arizona in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

Rick Renzi attended Buena High School in Sierra Vista, Arizona. He then studied until 1980 at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff . In 2001 he was still studying law at the Catholic University in Washington . In 2002 he was admitted to the bar. In 1989 Rick Renzi founded the insurance company Renzi & Company , which is now called "Patriot Insurance Agency". In 1999 he moved his primary residence from Virginia to Arizona. In 2001 he moved into his own home in Flagstaff.

Political career

Rick Renzi became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 2002 he was charged with 49% of the vote against George Cordova (46%) of the Democratic Party , succeeding Jeff Flake elected to the US House of Representatives. Flake ran successfully for the sixth constituency at the same time. Two years later Renzi made another leap into Congress . This time he achieved a share of 59%, while his Democratic opponent Paul Babbitt only managed to get 36% of the vote. In 2006, Renzi was elected to a third legislative term with 52% of the vote against Ellen Simon.

In his last tenure in Congress, Rick Renzi came under suspicion of corruption. In February 2008, he was charged with 35 offenses. As a result of the indictment, Renzi decided not to run again in 2008. On June 12, 2013, Renzi was found guilty of 17 cases and sentenced to three years' imprisonment.
