Stefan Bertil Lundin (born May 7, 1955 in Korskrogen , Hälsingland ) is a former Swedish football player and coach. The striker had to end his career early due to injury and was the youngest coach in the history of Allsvenskan when he took office in 1982 at Gefle IF . He now works as a sports official.

Career

Player career

Lundin moved to Gävle with his family as a child . There he began at local club Brynäs IF with the Hockey - and football games. At the age of 14, he put an end to his ice hockey ambitions and focused on football. After the football team of his club was promoted to the Allsvenskan, he came as a junior player in the 1974 season to seven first division appearances , but rose with the club at the end of the season in the second division.

Before the top-flight season in 1976 the first division undertook AIK with Lars-Oscar Nilsson a new coach. The supervisor who previously worked in the youth field at Svenska Fotbollförbundet had observed Lundin and signed the young player for the club from the Stockholm suburb of Solna . In a league game against Landskrona BoIS in May , he suffered an injury that later turned out to be a crack in his foot. Nevertheless, he was in the starting line-up ten days later in the cup final against the same club, but had to be replaced at halftime due to the pain. After a 3-0 win, he was able to celebrate the cup victory.

After a season Lundin left AIK and moved to league rivals Örebro SK , since he had started studying at the University of Örebro in 1977 . Parallel to his training as a Socionom, however, he was rarely used in the team around players like Thomas Nordahl , Ola Rydstrand and Ronald Åhman due to injury. At the end of the 1978 season , the team rose despite a coach change from Benny Lennartsson to Orvar Bergmark as the table penultimate in the second division.

First Lundin ended his career and returned to Gävle after completing his training. There he joined the second division club Gefle IF in 1980 , which had meanwhile joined the football department of his old club Brynäs IF. A year later he ended his active career.

Coaching career

Lundin took over before the second division season in 1982, the coaching post at his last game station Gefle IF. With the team he reached the relegation games to Allsvenskan. After two wins over Kalmar FF , the club returned to the top class after an almost fifty-year hiatus. After he had managed to stay in the league with the team in the first division season 1983 thanks to the better goal difference compared to the same point fellow climber Mjällby AIF , the league competitor Halmstads BK recruited him as the successor to the Dutchman Jan Mak . Although he only reached middle positions in the Allsvenskan with the club, the Portuguese club CS Marítimo was interested in his services.

In the summer of 1986 Lundin left his compatriots Sven-Göran Eriksson and Gunder Bengtsson Sweden for Portugal. In Funchal , however, he stayed only one season in which he took twelfth place in the Primeira Divisão with the club CS Marítimo . At first he stayed abroad and in 1988 took over the Norwegian club Moss FK . With the previous year's champions he reached fourth place in the table and then returned to Sweden.

Lundin took over the training at the second division club BK Häcken . After a seventh place in the first year of activity, he led the team to the cup final and first place in the southern season of the second division. The cup final ended with a 3-0 defeat by Djurgårdens IF and in the promotion games to Allsvenskan the club failed after a 1-0 home win by a 1: 4 defeat at GIF Sundsvall . Also in the following year he reached the promotion round with the team, this time they failed against Helsingborgs IF after a 2-2 and a 1-1 draw due to the away goals rule . Lundin then left the club and returned to Gefle IF, who also competed in the second division. First he reached the top positions with the team without being able to intervene in the promotion race. 1995 succeeded behind Umeå FC the runner-up in the northern relay, which entitled to participate in the relegation. Again Lundin failed, this time with two defeats against Östers IF . After another season, in which the seventh place was occupied, he ended his coaching engagement and moved as head of sport in the management of the club.

For the 1999 season Lundin returned to the coaching bench when he was hired by IFK Gothenburg as assistant coach of Reine Almqvist . After this was dismissed in the course of the season due to disappointing results, he moved up to the head coach of the traditional club. The season ended as eighth in the table and in the following two years he led the team to fourth place in the table. After a good start to the season in the 2002 season , IFK immediately lost the connection to the top of the table and after the elimination against the Moldovan club Zimbru Chișinău in the qualifying round for the 2002/03 UEFA Cup , the club's management decided to dismiss Lundins.

Lundin hired for the 2003 season as the successor to Mats Jingblad at Örebro SK . Although he reached eighth place in the table twice with the team, at the end of his second season, however, the license was withdrawn for the club due to economic problems. He then left the club and returned to the coaching bench of the Gothenburg club BK Häcken. He guided the newcomer to eighth place in the table before the club found itself in the relegation battle in the following season. At the end of September, the club's management released him from his contract and replaced him with his former boss Almqvist.

Subsequently, Lundin accepted an offer from the Swedish Association to cover the post of Riksinstructor with responsibility for West Sweden, and at the same time took over the post of chairman of the Swedish coaching association. In summer 2008 he switched to Svensk Elitfotboll , the association of 32 first and second division teams , as head of sport .
