The Örebro University ( Swedish : Örebro universitet ) is a public university in the Swedish town of Örebro with approximately 15,000 students and 1,100 academic staff.
The university goes back to the Örebro University of Applied Sciences (Swedish: Högskolan i Örebro ), which was founded in 1977 and was given university status in 1999. Today it is divided into four faculties:
- Faculty of Economics, Science and Technology
- Faculty of Human and Social Sciences
- Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
- Center for teacher training
The motto of the university is Dulce est sapere .
Among the former students are football coach Sven-Göran Eriksson and Göran Persson , former Prime Minister of Sweden. Persson, who studied sociology in Örebro from 1969 to 1971, but never graduated, received an honorary doctorate from the university in 2005 , which led to some criticism.
Medical degree
Since 2011 the ORU has the right to examine doctors; in January 2011 the first students started their studies. In order to cope with the increasing space requirements, a new building was built next to the Örebro University Hospital (Campus USÖ) and inaugurated in 2014. The training is carried out by the Institute for Medical Education (ILU) within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
