The university in Jönköping ( Swedish Högskolan i Jönköping ) is a by a foundation supported private university in Jonkoping , Sweden .
In 2015 the name was changed to Jönköping University , which led to criticism from the Swedish Language Council , as the Swedish term Högskola was replaced by the English university and this is now used in the university's external image.
The university is divided into four universities of applied sciences and has the right to award doctorates and habilitation degrees for certain subjects. Each of the faculties is a limited liability company ( Aktiebolag ) under Swedish company law . These, as well as another company ( Högskoleservice ) responsible for running the university, are combined in a group of companies owned by the Jönköping University of Applied Sciences Foundation.

history
- 1977: The university is founded.
- 1994: The university receives its current form of foundation.
- 1995: The right to confer doctorates and postdoctoral qualifications in certain fields is granted.
- 2005: The college library is named Sweden's Library of the Year.
- 2013: The new sports center, Campus Arena, is built.
- 2015: Jönköping International Business School is Sweden’s first business school to be accredited by both AACSB and EQUIS .
