The Karlstad University ( Swedish : Karlstad universitet ) is a public university in the Swedish city of Karlstad . With around 16,000 students and 1,100 academic employees (2014), it is one of the smaller universities in Scandinavia . The motto of the university is Sapere aude .
The university goes back to the Karlstad University of Applied Sciences (Swedish: Högskolan i Karlstad ) founded in 1977 and received university status in 1999.
Faculties
There are 2 faculties. The Ingesund University of Music ( Swedish : Musikhögskolan Ingesund ) has been part of the humanities faculty since 2002 , although it is located in the town of Arvika , around 80 km west of Karlstad.
