The Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet (SLU, German: Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences ) is a state university in Sweden. Its main location is in Uppsala , with further locations in Alnarp , Skara and Umeå . Unlike other state universities, the university is financed by the Ministry of Agriculture.
history
The university was formed on July 1, 1977 through the merger of three existing universities of veterinary medicine , forestry and agriculture , as well as some smaller units. As part of this, the veterinary medicine and forestry locations were relocated from Stockholm to Uppsala-Ultuna, where the agricultural college was already located.
The three universities had a long tradition as independent institutions. Uppsala-Ultuna Agricultural School was founded in 1848 as an institute of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture. The Veterinary Institute in Skara was founded in 1775 and was headed by Peter Hernqvist , a student of Carl von Linné and Claude Bourgelat , the founder of the first veterinary college in Lyon . The Forestry Institute was established in Stockholm in 1828 and expanded in 1915 to include a technical college for forest rangers.
In 2001 the university was a founding member of the Euroleague for Life Sciences .

- Faculty of Landscape Planning , Horticulture and Agricultural Sciences
- Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences
- Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science
- Faculty of Forest Sciences
