The first lecturers were hired with funds from ABB . After the university had initially rented various buildings, the school building of the former Zimmermannska school became the university's first headquarters in 1985. In 1989, Lillemor Kim became the first woman to become a university rector in Sweden. In 1993 the university was renamed Mälardalens Högskola . Since 1995 Magister degrees can be obtained in Västerås and Eskilstuna . In 1998 the computer scientist Hans Hansson becomes the first professor at the MDH. In the same year the new university building in Eskilstuna is inaugurated. In 2002 the new headquarters in Västerås will be completed. In 2007 a third location was added with the Telge campus in Södertälje .
