John G. Campbell

John Goulder Campbell (born June 25, 1827 in Glasgow , Scotland , † December 22, 1903 in Prescott , Arizona ) was an American politician . Between 1879 and 1881 he represented the Arizona Territory in the US House of Representatives as a delegate .

Early years

John Campbell came to the United States in 1841 and initially settled in New York State . There he also attended the public schools. In 1849 he moved to California where he worked in various professions. In 1863 he finally came to Prescott in what is now Arizona. There he was involved in trade and animal husbandry.

Political career

Campbell was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1868 and 1874 he was a member of the House of Representatives for the Arizona Territory. At the same time he was also a county supervisor in Yavapai County . In the congressional elections of 1878 he was nominated by his party against the incumbent Hiram Sanford Stevens for the position of congressional delegate and then elected by the voters to this office. This enabled him to complete a legislative period as a delegate in the US House of Representatives between March 4, 1879 and March 3, 1881.

After his tenure in Congress was over , Campbell returned to his private business in Arizona, which now also included the hotel business. John Campbell died in December 1903 in his hometown of Prescott.
